Youthful Musicians

This was a terrific band consisted of all middle aged musicians who played music as if they were teens. Just plainly charming!

Goldfish

I bumped into this small pool of goldfish at the entrance of Tokyu Hands in Shibya today and it turned out to be the traditional Japanese “goldfish scooping” game.  I paid 200 yen for 1 play, which allowed me to catch as many goldfish as I could with a paper scooper until it got torn. It was the first time for me so I only managed to get 1 goldfish. But I really enjoyed the experience; I felt like a child. They put my goldfish into a transparent plastic bag filled with water and I carried it along for the rest of day while I shot street photos, attracting attentions of many kids! (View Large)

Octopuses

I don’t know the name for these hanging decorations, neither do my Japanese friends who I have asked. So I call them “octopuses” (because of their shapes) for now until someone corrects me. These octopuses are hung all over Shibuya Center street every year during this time in summer, making Shibuya even more attractive for the young and tourists.

Drunken and Fun

Base on my observation, I think most Japanese people are shy and reserved. But when they get drunk, they become just the opposite, and so camera friendly!!! I admit I love drunken Japanese people for that. (View Large)

A Little Surprise

These 4 Indian kids were tricking me; they posed and invited me to take this picture, but asked for money as soon as I pressed camera shutter. Shocking! Anyway, that was just the initial story behind this photo. There’s something more to it.  As I was editing this image in Photoshop, I discovered a little surprise – there was a cow watching over us from behind. If you look closely at the lower right side of this photo, you’ll see a curious looking cow looking straight at me from far away!  It makes me laugh … (View Large)

Intoxication

A drunk guy wanted to sleep right in the middle of sidewalk and his friend had to look after him. It’s a typical situation seen over the weekend in Shibuya. Note that those intoxicated who are not accompanied by anyone in public are exposed to all kinds of accidents such as falling off the subway platform and get run by approaching train. (View Large)

Criticism

I like criticism when it exercises our muscles. However, I’m skeptical of criticism that provides NO specific reason why, especially when it targets the work that you have enjoyed doing so much and feel proud of. It could very well mean just a sign for lack of interest in your work. So we really should try to be responsible when criticize, and be wise when get criticized.

Illusions

Don't part with your illusions.  When they are gone, you may still exist, but you have ceased to live.
Mark Twain

I was reading “The Wit and Wisdom of Mark Twain” last night and this morning, this quote particularly still echoes in my mind.
